Coach Samson Siasia says he doesn’t

know his offense against the Sports minister, Solomon Dalung, after the Nigeria U23 team picked up a bronze medal at the just concluded Rio Olympic games.

Siasia was said to have triggered the ire of Dalung when he complained about the hardship his team faced while preparing for the Olympics.
The result for his outburst saw his team enmeshed in an international embarrassment, as they could not be airlifted to Rio until a few hours to its opening game against Japan.

Siasia says it was funny that when he met the Sports minister one on one after a string of good results at the Olympics, Dalung did not recognize him.
But according to Siasia, the drama which his team faced still comes as a surprise to him, Vanguard reports.

“As we speak, I don’t know what I have done to offend the Minister. The whole thing is surprising”, Siasia said in Johannesburg while on a stopover to connect the final leg of the flight from São Paulo to Johannesburg and to Lagos.

The coach added that it was funny that when he met the Minister one on one after a string of good results, Dalung did not recognize him, even as he praised team captain John Obi Mikel for his outstanding performance at the competition.

Nigeria has now won gold, silver and bronze from the Men’s football event of the Olympics after a third place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The U23 team won gold in 1996 and picked silver eight years ago, also under Samson Siasia.
