Now that this country has a president who really understood corruption as the major problem of this nation and is really ready to battle it for the betterment of this country and its citizens. I think now is the right time we can point to some activities of some Nigeria politicians that does no good to this country but instead aim at collapsing the country or state.
If we are to discuss and mention the corrupt practices in governance of this country, Godfatherism won't be left out as a corrupt practice.
Godfatherism is corruption in highest order.
I know many of us do not see any big deal in been a godfather to somebody in politics and this leads me to why i want to reveal the evil effects of the so called Godfathers in Nigeria politics and to remind President Buhari not to leave this corrupt practice of Godfatherism behind while busy fighting the others aspects of corrupt practices.
According to me, I term political Godfatherism in Nigeria as an act at which someone who think he has influence, power, popularity and financial capability put another person in political position as a disguise to control or govern that political seat.
The major reason why people see no harm in political Godfathers is because they thought the godfather just help or offer assistance for someone's political ambition but i am telling you its beyond that.
One of the areas in which these acts of the so called Godfathers affects our economy is by snatching the rights of other citizens. Political post is not like a royal or kingship tittle in which one or two families have right to throne. Every citizens of this country have right to contest for post of his choice but godfather had snatched this right for their family alone.
take for instance the case of Kwara State, we all know is the Godfather at the seat of Kwara politics, during his life time he determine who will be who. He put Adams Ata, Sahaba lafiagi, Muhammed Lawal on the seat of Governor but when they wanted to exercise their right and be free to make decisions on their own as Governors, they were unseated by the same Godfather that brought them into power.
Today Kwara is more of a business venture to a family who has seen it as their responsibility to choose whoever will have a leadership position,
Godfatherism doesn't bring about development in any economy, rather much funds that are supposed to be injected into the economy are rather being injected into their personal pocket.
Another one is Protection of power. Popularity, financial capability and influence, are the tools used in controlling and installing people of their choice into power. So, they do everything in their power to retain these tool, not minding if life's are lost in the process.
President Buhari had proved to us that political godfatherism is an evil act. We all know that some politician help PBM financially during the last Election that saw him through the victory as Nigeria's President, but the president shocked some Cabals during his inauguration speech when he said "I am for everybody and I am for nobody"
Which means he is answerable to everyone but can't be controlled or manipulated by anyone.
Another Notable Man who has proven he can't be manipulated is Senate President Bukola Saraki who when his party said he should step down for Lawal as Senate President. He stood his ground and proved to them that he cannot be deprive of his right.
