I Will Knee Down to beg Saraki and Atiku to return to PDP: Raymond Dokpesi

– Chief Raymond Dokpesi has been going round the country campaigning for support ahead of the PDP convention to hold soon in Port Harcourt

– Dokpesi has revealed how he hopes to get defected members of the party to return and help it win the 2019 general election

A major contender for the position of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Raymond Dokpesi, has declared that he would get Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former vice president, Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, and all those who left the party in anger to return if he wins at the forthcoming conve

Not minding his age, he said he would kneel to beg the aggrieved former PDP chiefs if the needed opportunity arose.
Many of the aggrieved former PDP members are now in the All Progressives Congress (APC) with some already enjoying political offices.

Atiku, Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi, Audu Ogbeh and a lot of others left the then ruling party in anger.
While Saraki is Senate president, Amaechi and Ogbeh are now ministers in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Amaechi and few other former governors left the party over some irreconcilable differences between them and former President Goodluck Jonathan in the heat of the 2015 general election. This, according to analysts, was one of the reasons Jonathan lost in the election.

The Herald reports that Dokpesi believes the PDP must provide a viable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We want to give strong opposition to this government because there is a lot hunger and poverty in the country and Nigerians are suffering,” he said.

“My ambition is for PDP to win 2019 and I am going to deploy massively for that to happen. For that reason I am going to bring back all those leaders who left and I hereby tender my unreserved apology to them to return.

“There will be level playing field for all candidates under my leadership. I am not an agent of anybody and I am not sponsored by anyone and I feel insulted to hear that someone is sponsoring me. But I have no commitment to anybody.
“I am ready to kneel down for those aggrieved to come back to the party in order for us to be victorious in 2019,” he said.

The convention will hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers state in the coming days and Dokpesi is slugging it out with top party figures including Chief Bode George, Jimi Agbaje, Cairo Ojougbo and others.
On Thursday, August 11, he warned that
governors must stay away from the usual imposition that the party was known for as this could end the existence of the PDP if it happens again at the convention.
